C F Monroe Company

An American glass decorating firm founded in 1880 in Meriden, Connecticut by Charles F Monroe, the firm began business as retailer of imported glass, but soon began decorating glass blanks acquired from other firms such as Mt Washington Pairpont, and from overseas. Noted primarily for its decorated Opalware, the firm enjoyed its greatest success from 1890-1910. Thereafter changing tastes diminished the company's fortunes and it ceased operating in 1916.
